And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends:

‘No,’ he said to his father, ‘look at all the years I have been serving you, without ever once disobeying you, and yet you have never given me even a young goat, so that I might have a merrymaking with my friends.

Er aber antwortete und sprach zu dem Vater: Siehe, so viele Jahre diene ich dir, und niemals habe ich ein Gebot von dir übertreten; und mir hast du niemals ein Böcklein gegeben, auf daß ich mit meinen Freunden fröhlich wäre;

Mas él respondiendo, dijo al padre: He aquí tantos años te sirvo, no habiendo traspasado jamás tu mandamiento, y nunca me has dado un cabrito para gozarme con mis amigos:

Mas o filho respondendo, disse ao pai: Eis que eu te sirvo há tantos anos, e nunca desobedeci tua ordem, e nunca me deste um cabrito, para que eu me alegrasse com meus amigos.

Mas o filho lhe respondeu, dizendo: 'Eis que todos esses anos trabalhei para ti como um escravo e nunca quebrei nenhuma de tuas regras; mesmo assim, o senhor nunca me deu um cabrito para eu fazer uma festa com meus amigos.
