Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand.

Und sagte er: Nein! so sprachen sie zu ihm: Sage doch: Schibboleth! Und sagte er: Sibboleth, und brachte es nicht fertig, richtig zu sprechen, dann ergriffen sie ihn und schlachteten ihn an den Furten des Jordan. Und es fielen in jener Zeit von Ephraim zweiundvierzigtausend.

Entonces le decían: Ahora pues, di, Shiboleth. Y él decía, Siboleth; porque no podía pronunciar de aquella suerte. Entonces le echaban mano, y le degollaban junto á los vados del Jordán. Y murieron entonces de los de Ephraim cuarenta y dos mil.

Então lhe diziam: Agora, pois, dize, Chibolete. E ele dizia, Sibolete; porque não podia pronunciar daquela sorte. Então lhe lançavam mão, e lhe degolavam junto aos vaus do Jordão. E morreram então dos de Efraim quarenta e dois mil.

então, eles diriam para ele: "Dize: chibolete". E se ele dissesse: "sibolete", porque não conseguia pronunciar a palavra corretamente, os gileaditas o prenderiam e o matariam nas passagens do Jordão. Quarenta e dois efraimitas foram mortos naquele tempo.
