Aber das Volk sprach: Du sollst nicht ausziehen; denn wenn wir fliehen müßten, so würden sie nicht auf uns den Sinn richten; und wenn die Hälfte von uns stürbe, so würden sie nicht auf uns den Sinn richten; denn du bist wie unser zehntausend. So ist es nun besser, daß du uns von der Stadt aus zum Beistande bist.

Mas el pueblo dijo: No saldrás; porque si nosotros huyéremos, no harán caso de nosotros; y aunque la mitad de nosotros muera, no harán caso de nosotros: mas tú ahora vales tanto como diez mil de nosotros. Será pues mejor que tú nos des ayuda desde la ciudad.

Mas o povo disse: Não sairás; porque se nós fugirmos, não farão caso de nós; e ainda que a metade de nós morra, não farão caso de nós: mas tu agora vales tanto quanto dez mil de nós. Será pois melhor que da cidade tu nos ajudes.

Mas os homens lhe disseram: "Não deverás ir à batalha, pois, se nós fugirmos, eles não se importarão conosco, ou, se metade de nós perecer, ainda não se importarão. Porém, tu és digno de dez mil de nós! Por isso, será melhor que, na cidade, tu estejas pronto para nos ajudar".
